Joining the ER Group stable in 2010, this unit has shown steady increase in patient numbers, surpassing the 1 700 patient per month mark in 2012. The ER Group Brand has once again showed the trust the community has developed in consistent quality service delivery.
Clinical Profile
This unit manages adult and paediatric emergencies, although a specific focus is placed on WCA cases and a strong involvement with the Avril Elizabeth Home.
Fees & Administration Fee
There is no administration levy charged to any patient. The patient’s account is then submitted to medical aid directly by ER Consulting Inc. provided the correct information is given.
Triage
South African Triage Group (SATG) protocols were established in the unit shortly after joining the ER Group ensuring rapid clinical assessment on arrival in the unit. All patients are triaged on arrival and are allocated a colour. This colour represents the acuity of the patient and the order in which the patient will be seen.
Doctor Model
The unit is lead by a senior doctor with international experience in emergency medicine. A further 2 full time ER Consulting Inc. doctors assist with the cover with the balance of the hours completed by accredited locum doctors. Longstanding locum agreements ensure consistency of service delivery.
Locums
All locums are ER Consulting Inc. accredited, with most locums performing shifts on a fixed schedule basis.
Shifts
Doctors work in 9 to12 hour shifts with an additional doctor being on call should patient volumes exceed the capability of the unit at any given time.
Administration
A full time unit administrator is employed by ER Consulting Inc. to perform all administrative tasks on site. The administrative data is exported to head office where the full process is completed.
Continued Professional Development
ER Consulting Inc. hosts accredited monthly Morbidity and Mortality meetings that are attended by specialist, nursing staff and paramedics. These meetings are further enhanced by regional clinical morbidity and mortality meetings held quarterly at the dedicated ER Group training centre in Bryanston.
WCA/COID
Numerous businesses in the area make use of the efficient WCA service that accepts all patients injured on duty, provided a copy of their ID book and the Employer’s Report are present. This documentation is then collated by our unit administrator together with the First & Progress Medical Reports before being submitted to our head office for processing. The growth in patient numbers of WCA cases is a specific focus area for the unit, with patient volumes comprising mostly of WCA cases.
Clinical Protocols
ER Consulting Inc. operates according to international best practice and is guided by the ER Consulting Inc. clinical guidelines which are available in electronic format and accessible 24 hours per day. Additionally there are hard copies of the SAMF and MIMS guidelines in the unit. The ER Consulting Inc National Clinical Director ensures that all doctors are up to date through the innovative clinical proficiency scorecard, providing training for our doctors through our dedicated training facility in Bryanston.
Corporate Social Responsibility
The ER Group has an extensive Corporate Social responsibility programme with the Avril Elizabeth Home and the Acres of Love projects being run from the Roseacres Emergency Unit.
