  • Volumes of patients

    Nelspruit Medi-Clinic Emergency Unit sees 1200 patients on average per month. Our patient profile includes a lot of international patients visiting The Kruger National Park, as well as patients from Mozambique and Swaziland.

  • Clinical profile

    Level 1 Emergency unit. Diverse clinical profile incorporating all adult and paediatric emergencies. Special mention must be made of the large number of ‘animal’ related injuries seen in this particular emergency unit due to the location of the unit.

  • Fees and Administration fee

    All fees are charged at NHRPL rates. No administration fee is levied by the doctor’s practice. Patients are categorised into private, medical aid and WCA when charged. Schedule of fees is available at the unit.

  • Triage

    South African Triage Group (SATG) protocols are employed in the unit.

  • Doctor Model

    Three full time emergency unit doctors, a senior clinical advisor and a clinical head of department make up the team employed by ER Consulting Inc in the unit.

  • Locums

    A select group of ER Consulting Inc. accredited locums are utilised in the unit. Locum shifts do not account for more than 20% of the total hours covered.

  • Shifts

    Doctors work 9 hour shifts with double cover between 13h00 and 16h00 daily. There is an additional doctor on call 24 hours a day.

  • Administration

    Two trained unit administrators are employed by ER Consulting Inc. to perform all administrative tasks on site.

  • Continued Professional Development

    Dr F Theron a specialist physician is our clinical advisor in Nelspruit. He holds weekly meetings to review ECG’s and interesting case studies. ER Consulting hosts accredited monthly Morbidity and Mortality meetings that are attended by specialists, nursing staff and paramedics.

  • WCA

    WCA patients are welcomed in the emergency unit provided a copy of their ID book and the Employer’s Report are present. This documentation is then collated by our unit administrators together with the First & Progress Medical Reports.

  • Clinical Protocols

    ER Consulting Inc. has developed a clinical protocol booklet in line with international best practice specifically tailored to the needs of the Nelspruit Emergency unit.

  • Events

    ER Consulting Inc. provides medical support to the major events in the Lowveld. These include the Inni-Bos Festival, the Jock Cycle Tour and various motor sport events to name but a few.

  • Research

    Currently research is underway into quad bike injuries, the results of which will be published in 2008. Statistical analysis of animal related injuries seen in the unit is ongoing and will form the basis of a retrospective study for 2008.
