ER Consulting Inc Clinical Governance Program
ER Consulting Inc is proud to have developed a Clinical Governance Program that demonstrates to our patient’s, our colleagues and our business that we value a system that identifies a need for continuing education and periodic review; in order to maintain a level of service excellence that we provide to our patients. Medical litigation and the Consumer Protection Act have been embraced as an opportunity for ER Consulting Inc to set an industry standard in compliance with Clinical Governance by demonstrating a pro-active and co-ordinated approach to ensuring that we have developed our Clinical Governance approach under 5 pillars:
| Culture | We value the process and identify the strengths such a program can offer. |
| Principles | The process is fair and accessible, responsive and efficiently integrated. |
| People | The staff involved are skilled and professional. |
| Process | ER Consulting Inc has a systematic approach across all our Emergency Units. |
| Analysis | There is a continuous process of review and improvement. |

Academic Emergency Medicine has been then cornerstone around which the ER Consulting Inc management team has built the Clinical Governance Program. Dr Peter Anderson, the Clinical Director for ER Consulting Inc has created the Academic Team around a unique “Driver’s Championship”. Dr Anderson is a Consultant in the Trauma Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and Senior Lecturer in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand. The “Driver’s Championship” has identified 8 categories that ER Consulting Inc is developing to ensure that, while we are not literally involved in a Formula 1 Championship, there is no reason why we cannot set another industry standard that demonstrates our commitment to Clinical Governance.
The categories:
Diploma in Primary Emergency Care.
ER Consulting Inc has all our managed Emergency Units annually accredited by the College of Emergency Medicine for DiPPEC training and strives to ensure that study groups and literature distribution is available for all candidates. The team further identifies those eligible for the Higher DiPPEC.
Emergency Ultrasound.
ER Consulting Inc has embraced Emergency Ultrasound with key units being identified and motivation for hospital and specialist acceptance, together with training of doctors. The role of Emergency echocardiography is also being reviewed.
Masters in Emergency Medicine.
ER Consulting Inc has currently got a number of permanent doctors registered for Masters degrees and our commitment to expanding this University relationship is on-going.
ATLS, ACLS, APLS.
Through our own Training and Development Centre we have a robust and detailed database and review system of ensuring all our doctors are given the opportunity to comply with the standard core of emergency courses available.
Medical Ethics.
In times of Medical Litigation and the Consumer Protection Act we have identified a need to champion this division.
Case Reports.
All our doctors are encouraged to submit case reports and assistance is given for medical writing.
Publications and Research.
ER Consulting Inc has an extensive database of collected statistics and information that with Ethics approval is available for publication, we further are creating an ethos that will show our doctors that we are committed to empowering all our staff towards a career that can show development in the publishing arena.
Mortality and Morbidity.
All ER Consulting Inc managed units conduct regular review meetings at a local and regional level to help identify and address clinical scenarios that may have arisen.
ER Consulting Inc strives to ensure that through our Clinical Governance Program we demonstrate to the Hospital Management and Group that we are a company that has the infrastructure and the ability to deliver a program that will make a difference to quality of care in the Emergency Unit. This program will ensure that while we set an industry benchmark that we are extremely proud of; we are committed to maintaining this as the leaders in an emerging field in South Africa and indeed Africa. ER Consulting Inc has built such a program to ensure that doctor compliance is not mandated but volunteered, to such an end that all our doctors who are permanently employed by ER Consulting Inc can feel proud that they are part of a company that embraces the need for Emergency Unit doctors to have created a portfolio built on academic advancement, career development and periodic review. ER Consulting Inc is ultimately proud that such a program has been developed to ensure that we provide our patients with an environment and a treating doctor that will ensure a standard of service excellence in the field of Emergency Medicine.
